Solid Wood
Cutting
Solid wood cuts nicely and at different thicknesses depending on the species. Soft woods like poplar and pine can be cut thicker than harder woods like oak, purple heart and mahogany. In most cases the charring of the edge won't be so deep that light sanding can't take it off. Charring is often minimized with proper power and assist air.
Engraving
Solid wood raster engraves very nicely. Depth and color can be controlled by adjusting focus, power, and speed. Experimentation on a scrap section of material is often necessary since wood is a natural product and has variations from one piece to another. Even on the same piece variations with the grain will affect the look. Controlling exhaust is important so that staining is minimized or eliminated from the top surface.
Scoring
Scoring and vector engraving wood is good for fine lines. This is especially useful if simply marking points with a crosshair or quickly marking non-cosmetic text.
